In short

Nancy Pigmans, born Rotterdam May 1970, is a full-time Dutch artist, who graduated Fine Arts at the St. Joost College in 1994 in the city of Breda, followed by a Masters Degree at the Frank Mohr Institute in the city of Groningen (1998).

Since 1999, her central theme when creating art is "the aeroplane".

She is totally fascinated by the world of aviation and just the simple beauty of the various types and desing of aircraft attracts her.

But this most miraculous piece of transport that can take people into air, gives her good and bad thoughts as well.

The impact the aeroplane and aviation in general has to developments in the world of the last decades, like travelling and making the world a smaller one, intrigues her. No need to argue that turistic, economic and militaristic influences of "the aeroplane" in today's world are gigantic.

The 09-11 disaster at the World Trade Center brought a dramatic effect to the aviation world, caused by religious motives. This brought a turning point in Nancy's work as well.

With her catholic background she overthought her own religion and added a profetic character to her flight impressions. Stories from the bible are translated into her work, using different materials.

She created a white aeroplane f.e. , embroided into a small carpet, representing the angel Gabriel searching for Maria.

But in spite of the willingness to bring a message of peace, religious people often bring their message, paradoxically enough, in a violent way.

This can be seen f.e. in her embroideries of Maria figures on ammunition of combat aircraft.

Nancy often uses materials that contain a certain 'overtone', like wedding dresses of divorced girlfriends, which she transforms into a squadron of fighters. Many textile - pieces of her work are made out of garments of Dutch priests.
